A sizzling summer thank you from Let’s Go Zero

As the summer holidays arrive, the Let’s Go Zero team would like to say a huge thank you for everything you’ve done this year to take action on climate and make your school more sustainable.

Let’s Go Zero scoops national charity award!

We’re also thrilled to share Let’s Go Zero has won the top prize in the Campaigning & Advocacy category at this year’s Charity Awards – the longest-running and most prestigious awards in the charity sector.

This incredible recognition highlights the impact of our campaign, led by Ashden Climate Solutions, to help nurseries, schools, and colleges across the UK take action and cut carbon emissions.

Matt Nolan, Chief Executive of Civil Society Media which organises the Charity Awards, congratulated Ashden Climate Solutions on winning the highly coveted award.  He said:

“For quarter of a century, the Charity Awards has been highlighting and celebrating the vital work of UK charities, large and small, across the country. In 2025, the sector is facing almost unprecedented external challenges, yet the resilience, ambition and innovation in these applications continues to impress and inspire us. Huge congratulations to Ashden Climate Solutions; it’s a great project and Ashden should be very proud to have won.”

Ashok Sinha, Chief Executive at Ashden Climate Solutions, said:

“This award is a huge honour – and testament to the passion and persistence of the school leaders, teachers and students who are leading the charge on climate action. Let’s Go Zero is about more than cutting carbon – it’s about creating a better, fairer future for young people. This recognition strengthens our call to government: invest in schools, back their ambition, and help turn zero carbon from aspiration into reality.”

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Climate Action Countdown!

We loved seeing so many schools embracing the activities and using them to spark climate conversations and inspire positive action. From waste-free lunches to nature gardens, your enthusiasm made this campaign a real success.

If you didn’t have the chance to join in during term time, it’s not too late! The Countdown activity packs are full of fun, easy-to-run resources that pupils can enjoy over the summer.

They’re a great way to keep students engaged in climate action and are especially useful for reducing learning loss – particularly vital for those who struggle with attendance, helping them stay connected to school in a fun, healthy and resilient way.

No climate action plan? No problem!

As we head for the summer holidays, a quick reminder the DfE recommends all schools have a climate action plan in place by September.

Not sure where to start? Don’t worry! Our brilliant Climate Action Advisors (CAAs) are here to help. They’ll guide you step-by-step building a plan that works for your school, no matter where you’re starting from.

And finally, don’t forget to power down and switch off at the end of term. Turning off lights, monitors, whiteboards, chargers, and unused appliances will save energy and cut your carbon footprint – even while school’s out.

We hope you thoroughly enjoy your well-earned break and come back refreshed for another impactful year.

See you on the other side!
