Free Carbon Literacy training
from Let’s Go Zero
Register now for free online training for sustainability leads to become carbon literate, available to all UK schools and multi-academy trusts when you register with Let’s Go Zero.
We’ve created a brand new course ideal for sustainability leads and other staff members looking to boost their skills and knowledge in climate change, carbon emissions and more.
The free online course, accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, starts on 11 March 2025 and is delivered as four two-hour sessions every week, for a total of eight hours.
There’s no two ways about it – we’re in a climate and an ecological crisis.
But we’ve also got an amazing opportunity to take action in the fight against climate change. And schools are uniquely placed to make a big difference.
As well as having the power to cut their own emissions and carbon footprints (which make up as much as 20% of the emissions from the UK’s public sector), schools can educate and inform the next generation about the role they have to play in protecting our planet.
Training in schools to become carbon literate is important because it helps staff feel even more confident in taking eco-friendly actions in their workplace. It also models sustainable behaviours in front of students, helping engage them in important topics like recycling and pollution, while also encouraging conversations around climate change and carbon emissions.
Being carbon literate is when someone understands the true cost of carbon dioxide – and how our everyday activities can impact this.
Someone who is carbon literate also has both the skills and motivation to reduce carbon emissions, whether that’s on an individual, community or organisational basis.
Your accredited training will cover vital climate-related topics, which will give you:
Your training will cover climate science basics on a local and global level, the current and predicted climate impact (with a focus on schools), climate justice and more – plus those all-important practical steps you can take to help your school reduce its climate impact!
You’ll also explore strategies for influencing others to take action on climate change, and partially complete your climate action plan with support from one of our Climate Action Advisors.
The course is mainly designed for sustainability leads at UK schools and multi-academy trusts – but other members of your school’s team are also welcome to sign up!
Places on the course are limited and we’re expecting high demand, so please double-check you can attend all of the training sessions.
We can only offer Let’s Go Zero training to UK schools, colleges and nurseries that have already joined the campaign. It just takes a minute to sign up, so join us now!
Our first training sessions dates are as below but we will be announcing more sessions throughout the year very soon.
Each interactive session is run online on Microsoft Teams for two hours, making up a total of eight hours across the four days. You must commit to attending each of the four sessions.
