Go stargazing
This Climate Action Countdown challenge is all about the stars! Begin by watching the sun go down. You can lie down on blanket or sit down – whatever is comfy. Watching the sunset is a magical activity. What can you hear? Birdsong? What can you see?
Constellations, (which are groups of stars that looks like shapes in the sky) like Orion’s Belt can be seen towards the southwest. Look for three bright stars close together and then two stars to the north and south. You don’t need a telescope to see these constellations!
Canis Major (meaning ‘greater dog’ in Latin) is another constellation to look out for and is found down and to the left of Orion’s Belt. It should be easy to spot as it includes Sirius – the brightest star in the sky!
Keep an eye out for satellites. These will also be slowly moving across the sky but not flashing. Whatever you see, don’t forget how magical it is to look up to the stars and the place we and wildlife call home.
