By recycling materials that would otherwise end up in landfill, we can make a big difference to our environmental footprint and combat climate change.

Recycling is not just a trend; it’s a crucial step towards preserving our planet for future generations.

Why does recycling matter?

Imagine all the waste we generate daily—where would it all go without recycling? Landfill sites would overflow, harming wildlife, polluting water sources, and damaging the Earth. Recycling helps reduce these bad effects by giving new life to used materials and protecting valuable resources.

How could you encourage classmates and teachers to recycle everything they can? You  could label each bin with the specific material type (plastic, paper, metal, glass) to make sure it can be separated and be used again more easily. Let’s make recycling a collective effort!

What can be recycled?

Did you know there are some items that can’t be recycled?

Here’s a list: tissues, cotton wool, plastic toys, bubble wrap, toothpaste tubes, greasy containers, and items with stickers or Sellotape.

Did you know?

  • It takes just 25 recycled plastic bottles to make a new fleece hoodie or sweater.
  • Around 80% of paper produced in the UK contains recycled material.
  • You can recycle metal and glass endlessly without losing quality.
