Green Schools Project’s Zero Carbon Schools Programme is a series of pupil sessions, teacher training and community engagement that supports pupils to learn more about climate change and schools to reduce their carbon emissions. The programme explores the causes and effects of the climate crisis, investigates schools’ carbon footprints and enables pupils to design projects to reduce carbon emissions and inspire climate action. Pupils Profit School-based ECO Refill Shops empower children with the skills and tools to actively reduce plastic waste at school. Children from KS2 upwards build workplace skills whilst participating in a fully circular business model that refills hand wash, body wash, washing-up liquid and laundry liquid for the wider school community every month. Impact can be measured in bottles saved from waste, children’s skills progression and community behaviour change. SwopItUp is an organisation that works with secondary schools and universities to educate students about the environmental and social issues linked to fast fashion. They help schools run student-led Clothes Swops ac universities encourage students to take action and give them access to preloved clothes as an alternative to fast fashion. This can be done as an approved DofE volunteering activity. The Swops are free and are run on a token-based system to encourage accessibility. SwopItUp provides the resources and structure to run a Swop, including information, posters and tokens and educational presentations. As they receive grants and fundraising activities, they don’t charge a fee.
A Good Thing CIC, matchmake schools and businesses who care with amazing local charities. They make it easy for schools and businesses to donate unwanted items to local charities via a free to use app. Sending less to landfill and more to a good cause.
The idea is simple. A school has something to spare… Anything from a used laptop, furniture, a theatre set that’s no longer needed or equipment that is no longer used. A local charity has a need… They have the ideas and dedication but need the resources to make it happen. They make the match!
